Aurephone 1884 – (USA)

The Aurephone was patented in the USA in 1883 by AH Hammond of Worcester, Massachusetts and the retailer – whose black and gold instruction sheet appearing at the top of the lid – is G.H.W. Bates & Co of Boston, Massachusetts. The Aurephone has 17 notes and the paper roll acts as the valve, with three exhausters underneath to enable to crank handle to feel smooth. The roll will go into rewind when the lid is opened, with the single crank operating both play and rewind.
