Music Box Snuff Box 1845 – (UK)

This type of musical Snuff Music Box was used mainly in the home, rather than being pulled from the gentleman’s pocket for personal use at any time. It has a very early sectional comb movement with 4 teeth per section and  plays 2 different tunes. The case is ornate – depicting a military scene and is made of Gutta Percha – a brownish leathery material derived from the latex of certain trees in Malaysia, the South Pacific, and South America. Once it is boiled it produces a plastic like substance. The case is in extremely nice original condition.  Movement plays exceptionally well with a very brilliant tonal quality.  Dimensions: 3-1/2″ side to side, 2-1/4″ front to rear, 1-1/4″ tall with lid down, 3″ with lid up.
